I sewed some on my dress put in zipper. I need thread and Dad went to Plainwell to get groceries and will get thread. I washed out some clothes and made 2 cherry pies.

Orpha came over for a short visit, I wanted her to stay for dinner but she said no, she took the front of my new dress home with her so Rosemary could sew in zipper as I can't on my machine. (I didn't know I could sew in zippers!)

Four months since my hair was fixed. We are waiting for a call from Orpha if she wants to come for dinner. I hope she comes here. Well, we first went to Ike's then to Orpha's, had a
nice visit, then Bob, Karla and children came. She is expecting her new baby around the 22 of September. I sure dread Orpha's operation as I know she don't like to be away from home.

Orpha is going to the hospital today. Well, she phoned me then they went to Hospital. She or someone will let me know whether she got a phone in her room. I am trusting my dear daughter in Jesus hands for he does everything and I pray she will be okay.

Orpha goes to be operated on today. She is now in hospital. She was operated on at 10 o'clock and came along good, only she could not mover her legs and toes, but that's the way spinals work but Dad went there 3 times and she was gaining. Bud and Rosemary was there too last night.

I called Claudia around noon and she said Orpha was moving her feet more and am I glad. Dad is going back around 7 o'clock to see Orpha, wish I could go too but I better take care of myself. Claudia said she wanted to go tonight as Bud and Rosemary are going. Effie called up twice, Rosie twice, Ike too. Wants me to call him. Mrs. Rus was here with her baby girl, 2 months old.

Wrote Merle about Orpha's operation. Just sat around having dizzy spells. I want to go see Orpha tomorrow night or around 3 o'clock we can start at 2:30 and be with her over an hours.

I hope to go see Orpha in afternoon. Well, we went past Bud's and we three went to see Orpha. She really looks good, said at first she was awful sore but now was better. She got lots of flowers and felt pretty happy about it.

Willard's Birthday. I sent Orpha letter and card. It is raining all night an dit is after nine o'clock a.m., and still raining.

We went down near Mendon to buy a bushel of potatoes $1.44 and stopped going down and coming back to Mrs.Hardy's and she was not at home. They did not have Chippewas so we bought Katahatin.

Orpha called from me from her home this morning and I sure was surprised and happy to talk to my darling girl. I know she would tell me all. Oh you can't tell the feeling that came over me. I was so happy. Nice day to day. I don't get much done as I am so sick with my dizziness. I am doctoring my kidneys now maybe I can get better, hop so anyway. Orpha feels pretty good at 7:30 pm.

Dad went to Kalamazoo and we went past Orpha's and stayed about 2 1/2 hours with her. Seemed natural to have her home, she seems pretty good. I am happy it is all over with! Got letter from Merle.

Well, Orpah phoned me and I told her I was not too good and I would call later. Well, I put off calling Orpha and here she come out. I was surprised and Dad went to Cooper store, got me Doans Kidney pills. I have a dreadful headache. Orpah looks good, and I am so thankful.

My dear daughter phoned and is coming over. I am very happy, bless her heart, she is so sweet. I am some better. I am not so dizzy. Dad is fixing the faucets on kitchen sink.

I did not feel too good this morning and went back to bed. Our heat was out last night and Dad called up man at Martin and he came and fixed it $4.00. Dad mowed lawn, it is 1:30 pm, I feel little better.

I did a wash and Orpha called, said she was going to have tube taken out today. I did not feel too good and stayed home as i was going to Otsego to see about tombstones. Got card from Merle and Joyce around 6:30 David called said he was coming to stay all night but it is 8:30 pm and he is not here yet. I sent Merle letter.

I am washing a few clothes, trying to do a little work. Nice day today. Started to shorten my heavy winter coat. I also ironed my clothes I washed.

Retha Fouts' birthday. I canned 5 qt. pears. Orpha, Claudia, Rosemary and babies were here. Did not stay too long. Orpha don't look too good and I know she feels tired. I pity her so much, makes me sick to think of her. Wish it was me. She is so young and I well am getting old. I sent out 3 letters today.

I canned pears all day, was so tired, mopped up kitchen. Had some peaches so I mixed 1/2 peaches 1/2 apples and made a spread, was good. I have now 19 qts. peaches.

Well, Orby is scraping the tool house, getting it ready to paint. Orpha called said the doctor set October for her operation. I sure pray to our good Lord to take care of her as he is the only one who can and will. I had headache all afternoon. I mopped floor in kitchen and bath.

Baked 2 pumpkin pies. It is rainy. I want to clean my china ornaments, Merle bought me for center of table.It is nice but the fire we had about ruined it. I sorted out papers and books. I hope I can get that center piece clean with out breaking it.

Mopped kitchen and bathroom. Went to Dr. Brown he said my blood pressure is better but ordered me to get medicine for my ears. Said it was nervous condition, I had that's why I don't hear good. I cleaned all my blinds then vacuumed all the floors. I am tired but getting dinner.

Today it is drizzling a little rain. Went to Bud's and Rosemary was fixing Orpha's hair. We did not stay too long. Bud had been fishing. We took over corn, beans and asparagus as we was getting tired of it, they gave us egg plant. I cooked it. It was pretty good.

Dad went after saw dust and I am washing out his overalls and socks. Nice day, I called Orpha around 9 o'clock and no answer. The mail carrier came. I don't know if he left me any letter but Orby is here now so will wait and see.

I am dizzy this morning. Orby is going to paint trailer red on finders. He said paint was no good so did not paint it. I was busy with my pattern to make a straight dress like Effie and Dorothy's.

It rained last night and at 9:30 am it is still raining. Started to rain again at 12:35 and it is still raining at 2 o'clock, ten minutes after that it slaked up. I washed some pint jars to put my bread and butter pickles in.

I canned 9 pints of bread and butter pickles. Mr. and Mrs. Kosistra was here to look at place. Peter and Effie came over this evening and we had a lovely visit. I gave them some bread and butter pickles, she brought over her dress pattern.

Nice day today. We went to Orpha's and Orby went to Kalamazoo. Orpha did not feel too good. We gave Orpha $5.00 for her Birthday and Rosemary $2.00. (Back then $2.00 would buy a Record Album or about 8 gallons of gas)

Sent Orpha and Rosemary Birthday cards. Sent Merle a letter, sent match mothers letter, sent Rev. at Akron letter. Orby went to Plainwell store for groceries. I did a wash then ironed them. Dad trimmed raspberries, been selling sweet corn.

We went near Scotts on 34th Street and got apples. Ike came over after we got home and we gave him apples and corn. I made sauce for our supper.

I worked nearly all day, put up bread and butter pickles and defrosted refrigerator and put corn in to freeze. I am tired.

Today is my darling Orpha, my daughter's Birthday. We gave her $5.00. We are going to eat out as it is Rosemary, Claudia and Dad's birthday month. (Not Claudia's) We sold last corn around 2 o'clock and I am glad it is all gone. I put a lot in my freezer. I also put up bread and butter pickles. Well, Bud took Orpha, Rosemary and Dad for their birthday, had a nice dinner, then a nice ride after dinner.

My dear Daughter Orpha's birthday was yesterday, she was 55 years young, she don't show her age, looks more like 35. Well, today it rained a drizzle nearly all day. Ike came over brought papers and 6 peaches, they were good.

Well, it is a nice day but little chilly. Orpha came over and gave Dad a birthday card and told us she saw doctor and he wants her to wait till she weights 135 lbs. before he operates on her.

My dear husband's birthday, he will be 82 years young. Orpha came over and gave Orby a Birthday card. Then we went over to see Mrs. Parker and she raised her price on her place. She now wants $25,000.00, She can keep it for we won't pay that much. Washed my dear husband's face on his birthday.

Ike brought paper over. Orby had went to Plainwell after belt for washer. Ike left $6.00 for his Birthday so Ike went home then I called him after Orby got back and he came over and helped fix the belt on washer. I did some ironing.

We put down linoleum under washer and put a new belt on washer, cost $3.09 then I mopped the breezeway. It looks nice. Had corn for dinner. Orpha and Rosemary came over awhile as they were going after groceries. We gave them some corn.

Sat around, it is quite warm, had potatoes, apple sauce, asparagus, kala, peaches, pickles. Went over to Ike's and had quite a visit.

Did a big wash as I washed white also colored clothes. My washer needs repair don't know what it will cost but Orby went to Kalamazoo after dinner, has not got back yet and it is 4:45 pm.It has been rain quite a shower. I canned more pints of pickles.

Got my order from Aldens and slips and bras, was too small. Dad went to Plainwell and got rubber for front of the washer and I helped put it on now it is as new, cost $5.66 for belt and rubber front. Warner came late evening. She still likes our place. Dad bought some sirloin meat at Plainwell, it was good.

I washed out a few pieces to see how the washer worked and it was fine. I wanted to wash my runner in breezeway but I never got it done. It has to rain again. Got my order and returning 2 slips 3 bras to Aldens.

I went to Dr. Brown, he said my blood pressure was 220 over 40 and should be 180 or 40. Pretty high said for me to take 4 tablets and 1 tablet every day for a while.

Washed clothes and ironed my ironing and canned 9 pints of bread and butter pickles. I made biscuits for supper. I don't feel too good. I am just awful. Couple from Kalamazoo was looking at place, her name Harvey and his was Long, she had a daughter around 15 years. They were going to get married.

Ike came over with papers. Dad went after my blood pressure pills Brown ordered. Had our TV 1 year today.

Dad went to Cooper, bought bacon, pork chops, cakes. Will have my beans for dinner. I had froze in refrigerator. I am not too good but I think a little better thanks to my Lord. Orby is picking cucumbers. We took a ride after dinner and Mr. and Mrs. Anderegg came, had coffee cake for us and left note saying it was in mail box.

Orpha and Rosemary came over said Bud went fishing. Orby called I guess that is the reason she came. She did not stay too long, then after dinner Mr. and Mrs. Dennis and Dorothy came. Dorothy is going to stay till September then she goes back and I guess Dennis' will go too. I hate to see them go as Mrs. Dennis don't look too good.

Today is my darling daughter Daisy's Birthday, her wedding anniversary is August 26th. She has been gone to heaven now 1 year 9 months. I got dinner had new beans, pork chops and potatoes. I don't feel too good, guess I had too much company yesterday. Dad mopped kitchen for me. He has 9 bushel pears picked.

Haven't done much. I made a date nut bread. I am trying to gain my strength back. Wrote Lucille a letter and sent Dr. McNabb death announcement to her as she doctored with him a little, I think, anyway i know she and Bessie knew him. Ike was here, brought over papers.

Today was Daisy's wedding anniversary. They would have been married 48 years today. I surely miss my dear darling first baby and never a day passes as I pray for all of us. Men plowed the corn field today, I don't feel too good.

Started taking Geritol. Bud and Orpha came over a while this afternoon. Dad was to Kalamazoo but came home before they went. They brought over a nice mess of fish.

I worked nearly all day as Dad went to Kalamazoo and brought home 1/2 bushel of peaches and they were dead ripe so I went canned them as they would have spoiled.

Dad started to paint house and it is not the color I wanted, too yellow, so he quit. I guess we decided to put paint on but I will pick the color to trim. I don't feel too good yet but am better. Orpha has a cold, what Rosemary said and Bud went fishing.

I canned 8 more bread and butter pickles, now I have over 50 pints canned. Orby is painting. the lady called said my insurance check was down there and she would send it. Orby sold 3 bushel of pears today.

Got check of $293.35. 1/2 is $146.675 mine. Orby bought 1 gallon of paint to another store, Thrifty Acres. $5.81 tax included. He sold 4 1/2 bushels of pears.
It rained last night and at 9:30 am it is still raining. Started to rain again at 12:35 and it is still raining at 2 o'clock, ten minutes after that it slaked up. I washed some pint jars to put my bread and butter pickles in.

Nice day today. We went to Orpha's and Orby went to Kalamazoo. Orpha did not feel too good. We gave Orpha $5.00 for her Birthday and Rosemary $2.00. (Back then $2.00 would buy a Record Album or about 8 gallons of gas)

Sent Orpha and Rosemary Birthday cards. Sent Merle a letter, sent match mothers letter, sent Rev. at Akron letter. Orby went to Plainwell store for groceries. I did a wash then ironed them. Dad trimmed raspberries, been selling sweet corn.

We went near Scotts on 34th Street and got apples. Ike came over after we got home and we gave him apples and corn. I made sauce for our supper.

Today is my darling Orpha, my daughter's Birthday. We gave her $5.00. We are going to eat out as it is Rosemary, Claudia and Dad's birthday month. (Not Claudia's) We sold last corn around 2 o'clock and I am glad it is all gone. I put a lot in my freezer. I also put up bread and butter pickles. Well, Bud took Orpha, Rosemary and Dad for their birthday, had a nice dinner, then a nice ride after dinner.

Ike brought paper over. Orby had went to Plainwell after belt for washer. Ike left $6.00 for his Birthday so Ike went home then I called him after Orby got back and he came over and helped fix the belt on washer. I did some ironing.

We put down linoleum under washer and put a new belt on washer, cost $3.09 then I mopped the breezeway. It looks nice. Had corn for dinner. Orpha and Rosemary came over awhile as they were going after groceries. We gave them some corn.

Did a big wash as I washed white also colored clothes. My washer needs repair don't know what it will cost but Orby went to Kalamazoo after dinner, has not got back yet and it is 4:45 pm.It has been rain quite a shower. I canned more pints of pickles.

Got my order from Aldens and slips and bras, was too small. Dad went to Plainwell and got rubber for front of the washer and I helped put it on now it is as new, cost $5.66 for belt and rubber front. Warner came late evening. She still likes our place. Dad bought some sirloin meat at Plainwell, it was good.

I went to Dr. Brown, he said my blood pressure was 220 over 40 and should be 180 or 40. Pretty high said for me to take 4 tablets and 1 tablet every day for a while.

Washed clothes and ironed my ironing and canned 9 pints of bread and butter pickles. I made biscuits for supper. I don't feel too good. I am just awful. Couple from Kalamazoo was looking at place, her name Harvey and his was Long, she had a daughter around 15 years. They were going to get married.

Dad went to Cooper, bought bacon, pork chops, cakes. Will have my beans for dinner. I had froze in refrigerator. I am not too good but I think a little better thanks to my Lord. Orby is picking cucumbers. We took a ride after dinner and Mr. and Mrs. Anderegg came, had coffee cake for us and left note saying it was in mail box.

Orpha and Rosemary came over said Bud went fishing. Orby called I guess that is the reason she came. She did not stay too long, then after dinner Mr. and Mrs. Dennis and Dorothy came. Dorothy is going to stay till September then she goes back and I guess Dennis' will go too. I hate to see them go as Mrs. Dennis don't look too good.

Ike and Orby and I went fishing at Big Lake, got 13. We saw Donald out there with Donna and Lila. They were fishing and he wanted us to take the fish he had but we would not, so when we had dinner here came Ike with some fish. Donald sent us all cleaned. Bless him and his family. She also gave me two china fish, salt and pepper shakers. My i think a lot of Effie and Pete.

Bastin gave Orby $3.25 for 18 cement blocks. Nice day but chilly Orby picked a mess of beans and brought in bunch of asparagus. Ike's pants is 36-31. We bought a motor off Peter for $25.00. It is 5 horse power. I hope it is okay, it is a Sears.

Orpha, Claudia and babies was here a while this forenoon as they had Father's Day gift for Dad. The babies are growing, Anita is 14 months old and Dennise will be 3 on October 25, 1965.

Today was my Brother's Birthday, he would of been 82 if he would have lived. Orby sold some asparagus. Had northern beans and drop dumplings, radishes, nut bread, pickles, meat for dinner. Mrs. gave us a box of strawberries and we gave her flowers.

Sitting around listening to ministers on TV. Orpha went to cemetery then stopped at Ike's and he gave her the papers, so she stopped here a few minutes.

Looks like rain. I did not wash. Orpha came over this afternoon with Brain, Bob's boy. He is a talker and bright. He was little backward at first but got over it, he looks a lot like his Dad. (He still does) Orpha is sweet, I love her so much, good girl.

Well, I did my wash had it on line 8:15 am. It looks good and i am glad I got it finished early. Orpha called said she is going to call the other doctor. Dr. Klerk won't do the operation.

I did my ironing and cleaned my blinds in front room so after dinner will clean blinds in bedrooms. I feel tired. Turned out to be nice after the little rain. Warner's were here to look at place. I cleaned the two bedrooms.

I did a wash, the clothes line broke, let my clothes down. I got them taken off the line and fixed the line and put them up again. I hope it don't come down again. Orby is not at home, gone to sell asparagus.

Nice day. I did some wash and washed my table cloth out and washed 3 pair of pants and two shirts and 3 pair of socks. I cleaned all my front room furniture and took cornice down, polished furniture and I am so tired. Ike he brought over papers, gave Dad $2.00 for Father's Day.

Nice day but chilly. I don't do much work on the Sabbath for it is God's day. Bud and Dad went fishing, did not catch any to bring home. I stayed to Orpha's and we went out for supper. Then around evening Bud and Dad got home, had their supper then we came home watched the Titanic program, it was awful lot of people perished, when ship struck the iceberg. Got in bed 1:30 am Sunday.

Dad washed 3 windows on outside. I put up 9 pt. asparagus and fr ooze 2 qts. beans. We are going to have for dinner our first new beans. It is cooler to day. Bud came after the trailer after dinner. Sprinkled a little. Our asparagus about ended.

We went to see Blanche and Edith but they were not at home so we drove over to Ester's and she was gone. Then we drove past Ike's and had a nice visit with him.

I love them all, then after dinner we drove to South Bend to Elmer and Barbara, they was not at home. Then we drove to Dowagiac to see Peg and Roy, visited there a while, then on way home stopped to Blanches and they were gone, had a lovely drive.

We had lunch for dinner and stayed quite a while after dinner. Dennis came over to help bud spade in flower bed. Then we went to Ike's after just went straight on the main road. We bought a jar of yellow mums at Plainwell.

It is snowing today. I have an ironing to do. I have my afghan all pieced but now I intend to go over all seams with embroidery thread. Some one had an accident in front of Summer's, Dad April fooled me.

(Right next to Daisy, Mountain Home Cemetery, Otsego, MI) Ike went with us.

Went to Orpha's for the day, had a swell time. Ate dinner in Milham Park, she brought me home, we went to Plainwell to get ice cream. We sure had a good time.

Today I wrote to Merle, sent some clippings of the tornado of Cooper Center. I called Orpha she is going to clean house today.
Thursday, April 22, 1965
Ike came over with papers, Dad washed window today. I vacuumed floors. Ike and Dad picked up some corn for Ike's squirrels.

We went to store after some groceries.

Ike came over for dirt to put around Daisy's tombstone. Orpha came for a while, I washed my base boards.

It is cold, gloomy day. I wanted to go to church but as things turned out we can't go. Rained some out today. 40 degrees.

Still rainy and cold. Sent card to Lane Bryant to tell them I received check for dress, nothing due at this date.
Tuesday, April 27, 1965
I went to Orpha's for the day, had an awful good time. Bought our dinner an ate out. Rosemary was with us, then Orpha brought me home.

I ironed today and washed. Ike came over and picked up some corn. Orby planted some garden stuff.

Orpha came out today and was here for dinner. She is now talking to Claudia over phone. It is a cool day. Wrote a few lines on card to Daniel. Sent $2.00 to Look Magazine in money.

Had our first mess of asparagus for dinner and I made a date roll and did a wash. Then picked out 1 cup of walnut meats.

It is snowing today. I have an ironing to do. I have my afghan all pieced but now I intend to go over all seams with embroidery thread. Some one had an accident in front of Summer's, Dad April fooled me.

My sister's birthday. (Lydia) Sewed all seams on the quilted afghan. Nice day. Dad mopped kitchen. I had pancakes for dinner. Vacuumed the rooms. Mr. Elmer Hardy died today, will be buried at Marcellus.

Well, we had a very nice day and after dinner we went to Pete and Effie's and Pet looks a lot better and Effie too. We also saw Donald, Effie's son. He has a new car, lavender Chevy. Effie gave me enough material to make me a dress. She gave it to me to line my pieced Afghan but I think I will make a dress.

I have my afghan all pieced no I want to put a back on it. Put sale sign out in front, got letter from Rosa Myers, she said Daniel joined the Navy.

I washed the goods I intend to use the old cloth I bought for a quilt. I have had quite a while but thought I would use it on my afghan. Sent the minister $5.00 today.
Wednesday, April 7, 1965
I finished my afghan today, it looks real nice and started to take the gathers out of my dress. I don't like the pleated or gathered in dresses. I cleaned blinds.

Sent Mrs. Hardy a sympathy card. Dad went to Kalamazoo.

I did some wash and when it dried I ironed it. I am tried out today.

We did not do much today. Ike came over with papers and Mrs. Hardy called and we talked with her. She feels pretty bad and gets so lonely.

Went to Wall Lake with Realtor to look at 2 places at lake for sale. $8,900.00. Came home had dinner then phoned Orpha, and asked if she wanted to go look at the places and we all went and had an awful nice time. Enjoyed every minute. Had supper at Bud's.

I finished my red flowered dress. I took out the gathers and put in pleats.

The minister was here today, had a nice visit.

My Dad's birthday, born 1834. Orpha and claudia came over, they bought us flowers and cars for Easter. Claudia bought tulips, yellow. Orpha bought Azalea and lovely cards from Orpha, Claudia and Rosemary. Did my ironing, then washed a batch of clothes.

I called Orpha and she and Bud is starting on a vacation. Rosemary will stay at Claudia's. Dad went to store. I washed colored clothes today. I am so lonesome I cried. I hardly know which way to turn.

Got letter from Merle said Joyce was going to have another baby and they all are glad. Hope she has luck with this one. It is a cold day today, rained a little.

Was home all day. Bob, Karla and children was here today. Bob gave us $20.00 due us, had a nice visit.
