March 1942

(March 1942, Rosa and Orby move in to the rebuilt house on the farm in Vicksburg.

Sunday, March 1, 1942
9 eggs. Merle's was here, helped take 2 trailer loads to farm from Otsego, they stayed to dinner, went home before supper. A few minutes after they went, Orphas came, stayed to supper and just after supper was over, Daisy's came, we sure had a lovely day, I sure was glad to see them all. A very nice day. Letha put my hair up today.
Monday, March 2, 1942
6 eggs. It is snowing some, not so cold. Letha put my hair up for a home permanent and i just waved it.
Tuesday, March 3, 1942
8 eggs. Went to Merle's and Daisy's, the people moved from the two houses on Orleans Street.
Wednesday, March 4, 1942
7 eggs. Dad went to clean up at Otsego and sell papers, I did my wash.
Thursday, March 5, 1942
7 eggs. Cleaned my little 4 room today, getting ready to go with Orby tomorrow to help with the painting.

8 eggs. Went to farm, worked all day, then went to Otsego to see about renting our houses.

7 eggs. Went to farm, did varnishing and painted stairway.

9 eggs. Stayed home all day, its quite cold and snowed a little, rained some.
Monday, March 9, 1942
9 eggs. Its sure windy and bad, snow quite deep, drifted pretty bad.
Tuesday, March 10, 1942
9 egg. It sure turned out nice, but snow is quite deep, sun is very bright. Orby went to Kalamazoo to pay income tax. Paid $81.86 income tax. Got letter from Lydia.

9 eggs. It is a nice day, snow going fast, I did my wash.
Thursday, March 12, 1942
6 eggs. Did ironing and a little tired, also my headaches. Orby went to Otsego but I stayed home. Heard a broadcast from Pearl Harbor where they were mending ships, three men talked that lived there.
Friday, March 13, 1942
10 eggs. Was over to Williams, had a good visit, come home and packed dishes as we are moving back to farm. A very nice day.
Saturday, March 14, 1942
10 eggs. We stayed to farm. We put on casing and worked all day. Orby has took a few weeks off from work at Parchment. We moved back to farm to stay.

6 eggs. We worked some, went to Otsgeo, then come to Parchment and brought hens to farm.
Monday, March 16, 1942
6 eggs. I think us moving them set them back some, they fought a little but soon quit. Today is my Dad's birthday, had he lived he would be 87 years. Sure miss you dear Daddy.
Tuesday, March 17, 1942
9 eggs. We worked hard all day putting on window casing and back band. We drove in yard today with car, it has been so deep with mud.
Wednesday, March 18, 1942
8 eggs. It is flaking a little snow but I don't think it will amount to much. Snow all gone. We painted wood work upstairs, first coat.

7 eggs. We went to Otsego to get rent and got the carpet off of the bedroom. Ike paid $1.00 on glider.

8 eggs. We did painting upstairs, second coat.
Saturday, March 21, 1942
10 eggs. I have a hen wants to set. It is snowing nearly a rain. Went to Otsego this evening and Daisy and Ike will be over tomorrow to help move some things from Parchment little house. It is awful windy today.
Sunday, March 22, 1942
7 eggs. Ikes was here to day brought over the electric stove and new bed springs, mattress and dressers. It sure is terrible windy, could not hardily keep the mattress from blowing away. My hen played a trick on me and did not set.

8 eggs. We put up new window shades, painted around rug and bathroom. Some colder tonight. Put in stool downstairs.
Tuesday, March 24, 1942
7 eggs. Orby painted the upstairs bathroom and second coat on upstairs floor. The paint man was here. I sure got a dreadful headache.
Wednesday, March 25, 1942
9 eggs. Went to Vicksburg to see about paper hanger and one said he will be here Friday to paper. I did my wash and am tired. Today is Joyce's 6th birthday. I thought they would be over but not yet.
Thursday, March 26, 1942
6 eggs. I did my ironing and took paint off the windows. Sure come off hard, sure be glad when I get my house so I can live once more.
Friday, March 27, 1942
10 eggs. We only have 10 hens. We still are painting, got ready to paper but man never came so don't know when we can paper. Drizzle rain all day til 5 then started to snow, some colder.
Saturday, March 28, 1942
8 eggs. Snow nearly all gone. Its a lovely day. Orby went to Otsego and will bring back coal, I stayed home to work, cleaned my bedroom and kitchen. Started snowing around six o'clock. Bought new pencil sharpener, an airplane. Sold 3 doz. eggs at 31 ct. a doz. Got letter from Tim O'Neal about renting Parchment house.

8 eggs. Merle's come over, we papered ceiling in front and dining room, had a lovely time. Orphas came in afternoon , they brought me over an evergreen bush, it is sure lovely. It was a very nice day.
Monday, March 30, 1942
7 eggs. We did papering all day front room. It was raining some all day, turn to flakes of snow.
Tuesday, March 31, 1942
8 eggs. Orby went to Kalamazoo to get quarter round for the house and we finished papering.
