Sunday, August 1, 1965
It rained last night and at 9:30 am it is still raining. Started to rain again at 12:35 and it is still raining at 2 o'clock, ten minutes after that it slaked up. I washed some pint jars to put my bread and butter pickles in.
Monday, August 2, 1965
I canned 9 pints of bread and butter pickles. Mr. and Mrs. Kosistra was here to look at place. Peter and Effie came over this evening and we had a lovely visit. I gave them some bread and butter pickles, she brought over her dress pattern.
Tuesday, August 3, 1965
Nice day today. We went to Orpha's and Orby went to Kalamazoo. Orpha did not feel too good. We gave Orpha $5.00 for her Birthday and Rosemary $2.00. (Back then $2.00 would buy a Record Album or about 8 gallons of gas)
Wednesday, August 4, 1965
Sent Orpha and Rosemary Birthday cards. Sent Merle a letter, sent match mothers letter, sent Rev. at Akron letter. Orby went to Plainwell store for groceries. I did a wash then ironed them. Dad trimmed raspberries, been selling sweet corn.
Thursday, August 5, 1965
We went near Scotts on 34th Street and got apples. Ike came over after we got home and we gave him apples and corn. I made sauce for our supper.
Friday, August 6, 1965
My dear grand daughter's birthday, Rosemary and she is a darling girl. I put up 5 pints of apple sauce and did a wash. We gave her $2.00.
Saturday, August 7, 1965
I worked nearly all day, put up bread and butter pickles and defrosted refrigerator and put corn in to freeze. I am tired.
Sunday, August 8, 1965
Today is my darling Orpha, my daughter's Birthday. We gave her $5.00. We are going to eat out as it is Rosemary, Claudia and Dad's birthday month. (Not Claudia's) We sold last corn around 2 o'clock and I am glad it is all gone. I put a lot in my freezer. I also put up bread and butter pickles. Well, Bud took Orpha, Rosemary and Dad for their birthday, had a nice dinner, then a nice ride after dinner.
Monday, August 9, 1965
My dear Daughter Orpha's birthday was yesterday, she was 55 years young, she don't show her age, looks more like 35. Well, today it rained a drizzle nearly all day. Ike came over brought papers and 6 peaches, they were good.
Tuesday, August 10, 1965
Well, it is a nice day but little chilly. Orpha came over and gave Dad a birthday card and told us she saw doctor and he wants her to wait till she weights 135 lbs. before he operates on her.
Wednesday, August 11, 1965
My dear husband's birthday, he will be 82 years young. Orpha came over and gave Orby a Birthday card. Then we went over to see Mrs. Parker and she raised her price on her place. She now wants $25,000.00, She can keep it for we won't pay that much. Washed my dear husband's face on his birthday.

I did a wash and made 7 pints of bread and butter pickles, made apple sauce for dinner also had Kali greens.
Friday, August 13, 1965
Ike brought paper over. Orby had went to Plainwell after belt for washer. Ike left $6.00 for his Birthday so Ike went home then I called him after Orby got back and he came over and helped fix the belt on washer. I did some ironing.
Saturday, August 14, 1965
We put down linoleum under washer and put a new belt on washer, cost $3.09 then I mopped the breezeway. It looks nice. Had corn for dinner. Orpha and Rosemary came over awhile as they were going after groceries. We gave them some corn.
Sunday, August 15, 1965
Sat around, it is quite warm, had potatoes, apple sauce, asparagus, kala, peaches, pickles. Went over to Ike's and had quite a visit.
Monday, August 16, 1965
Did a big wash as I washed white also colored clothes. My washer needs repair don't know what it will cost but Orby went to Kalamazoo after dinner, has not got back yet and it is 4:45 pm.It has been rain quite a shower. I canned more pints of pickles.
Tuesday, August 17, 1965
Got my order from Aldens and slips and bras, was too small. Dad went to Plainwell and got rubber for front of the washer and I helped put it on now it is as new, cost $5.66 for belt and rubber front. Warner came late evening. She still likes our place. Dad bought some sirloin meat at Plainwell, it was good.

I washed out a few pieces to see how the washer worked and it was fine. I wanted to wash my runner in breezeway but I never got it done. It has to rain again. Got my order and returning 2 slips 3 bras to Aldens.
Thursday, August 19, 1965
I went to Dr. Brown, he said my blood pressure was 220 over 40 and should be 180 or 40. Pretty high said for me to take 4 tablets and 1 tablet every day for a while.
Friday, August 20, 1965
Washed clothes and ironed my ironing and canned 9 pints of bread and butter pickles. I made biscuits for supper. I don't feel too good. I am just awful. Couple from Kalamazoo was looking at place, her name Harvey and his was Long, she had a daughter around 15 years. They were going to get married.
Saturday, August 21, 1965
Ike came over with papers. Dad went after my blood pressure pills Brown ordered. Had our TV 1 year today.
Sunday, August 22, 1965
Dad went to Cooper, bought bacon, pork chops, cakes. Will have my beans for dinner. I had froze in refrigerator. I am not too good but I think a little better thanks to my Lord. Orby is picking cucumbers. We took a ride after dinner and Mr. and Mrs. Anderegg came, had coffee cake for us and left note saying it was in mail box.
Monday, August 23, 1965
Orpha and Rosemary came over said Bud went fishing. Orby called I guess that is the reason she came. She did not stay too long, then after dinner Mr. and Mrs. Dennis and Dorothy came. Dorothy is going to stay till September then she goes back and I guess Dennis' will go too. I hate to see them go as Mrs. Dennis don't look too good.
I don't know, Orby said he got paint today.
Tuesday, August 24, 1965
Today is my darling daughter Daisy's Birthday, her wedding anniversary is August 26th. She has been gone to heaven now 1 year 9 months. I got dinner had new beans, pork chops and potatoes. I don't feel too good, guess I had too much company yesterday. Dad mopped kitchen for me. He has 9 bushel pears picked.
Wednesday, August 25, 1965
Haven't done much. I made a date nut bread. I am trying to gain my strength back. Wrote Lucille a letter and sent Dr. McNabb death announcement to her as she doctored with him a little, I think, anyway i know she and Bessie knew him. Ike was here, brought over papers.
Thursday, August 26, 1965
Today was Daisy's wedding anniversary. They would have been married 48 years today. I surely miss my dear darling first baby and never a day passes as I pray for all of us. Men plowed the corn field today, I don't feel too good.
Friday, August 27, 1965
Started taking Geritol. Bud and Orpha came over a while this afternoon. Dad was to Kalamazoo but came home before they went. They brought over a nice mess of fish.
Saturday, August 28, 1965
I worked nearly all day as Dad went to Kalamazoo and brought home 1/2 bushel of peaches and they were dead ripe so I went canned them as they would have spoiled.
Sunday, August 29, 1965
Dad started to paint house and it is not the color I wanted, too yellow, so he quit. I guess we decided to put paint on but I will pick the color to trim. I don't feel too good yet but am better. Orpha has a cold, what Rosemary said and Bud went fishing.
Monday, August 30, 1965
I canned 8 more bread and butter pickles, now I have over 50 pints canned. Orby is painting. the lady called said my insurance check was down there and she would send it. Orby sold 3 bushel of pears today.
Tuesday, August 31, 1965
Got check of $293.35. 1/2 is $146.675 mine. Orby bought 1 gallon of paint to another store, Thrifty Acres. $5.81 tax included. He sold 4 1/2 bushels of pears.
