May 1963

(Rosa and Orby have their home on Douglas Avenue for sale. She has a note that says we have $13,405.oo in 8712 Douglas Avenue 5 acres.
Another note says House at Byrd Drive, near Kalamazoo Airport, paid $9,000.00 for house, $500.00 for extra lot, $420.00 tax and pump total $9,920.00 but have gotten $5,525.00 in payment and rent so we only have $4,395.00 total in it, that is the one Wagner's have)

I washed 3 dresses, a blanket, had asparagus for dinner. took a little ride to Plainwell, come back past the old slaughery house and they have closed off the road that went down to Wikels, looked odd to see it, Orby now is taking out dandelions.

Dad planted sweet corn, 8 rows. Had our first rhubarb, it was good. I washed and trimmed my corn, it sure hurt.

I baked 2 cherry pies. Called Dr. and told him I was taking Vitamin B1 for my back and he said Vitamin B1 was no good, I also told him I was taking more than 3 a day medicine for my blood pressure and he put me back on 3 a day.

We went to Earl's but they were gone, then we went to Blanche and they were gone then we drove on to Dowagiac to Roy Hann. We had quite a visit.

Went to Ike's and Daisy and Rosie, Jerry and Sharon was there. They all looked good also Betty and Patty was there a while, all planning for the wedding of Sandy. They will live in a house trailer.

I did some wash. Dad is picking asparagus. We have sold quite a bit. Dennis' started home from Florida. Dorothea (their daughter) brought them home.

Some people came to look at our place, as it is up for sale. they thought it was grand so do I, and Dad has sold a lot of asparagus.

Well, we sold Ike's boat this morning. Ike and Dad delivered it this afternoon. He got his price $45.00. Ernest Dennis' are home but tired.

I did some wash and cleaned up a little. People came to look at house and liked it a lot.

Was over to Dennis', they look pretty good. Ernest looked tired out as Lillian Looked lots older but I guess they had a good time, planning on going back in October. (Finally, we fine out that Mr. and Mrs. Dennis are Ernest and Lillian!)
Daisy said Ike had a new boat, the dear girl, I love her so much.

Orpha and Bud was over today brought me a lovely card and a large plant of azaleas. I am still at it crocheting me a chair back. Wrote letter to folks on George Drive.

Went to Daisy's for our Mother's Day dinner and time saw Ike's new boat. It is nice $150.00. Dad and Ike talked all the time, my flowers look beautiful.

Mrs. Bierma was here a while. She was a sister to the man Mrs. and Mr. Nagles that lived in the house we built for Bud's Body Shop. They were real nice people, sold $5.00 asparagus. Bud is not well, I hope he is lot better today. Got letter from a man in Mesa, he thought he had his house sold but the man got transferred so he had to give it up.

I made my dress straight around bottom, my blue jersey. Dad bought me blue thread but it don't match too well.

I did a wash and it was not a very drying day. Dad cut the grass in back yard. Butch got his collar bone broke they said he was going to school tomorrow.

Went to Earl's they were at home. It sure did rain when we was there and we sure got lot at home. Did a little wash and got it dry before we went.

Well, it was a very nice day. I did ironing. Dad is out some where. I guess pulling weeds. I had asparagus for dinner was very good. I called Orpha but Claudia said her and Rosemary went some where.

Daisy and Ike was over for dinner, then the men went over to Hoken Lake and took the new boat Ike bought and they caught 20 nice ones. Then Ike would not take any, give us all. I wish they would have taken some for their dinner too, as we had plenty.

Today I am trying to finish my chair back, it is a nice day but little chilly. Dad is picking asparagus.

Got my chair back done and am I glad. We had fish for dinner but they were not good. they are too soft. Daisy brought me some stomach medicine to try.

I cleaned out the dresser drawers and sorted over the pictures. Received letter from Merle and Bessie. Willard was not too well. Received stockings form Sears. At store I ordered 3 pair for Daisy and 6 pair for myself. They are clingalon hosiery, stretch seamless all nylon ultra sheer reinforced heal and toe. Claud Riviere. 3 pair $2.94, 6 pair $5.82.

Took Daisy 3 pair stockings over to her, then Orpha and Claudia and little Dennise had quite a visit.
Friday, May 23, 1963
Daisy and Ike came over and Dad and Ike went fishing. Orpah put my hair on curlers and it looked nice. I was not too well but we had a good time talking. I think Daisy feels better and i am so thankful as she has been so miserable so long.

Well, I want to vacuum my house and take a bath as we are going to Orpha's tomorrow if everything turns out good.

Well, we went to Orpha and Bud's had a lovely time and delicious dinner. Rosemary baked the cake and she is a darling to help with everything. Claudia was there also, the baby (Dennise) is a sweet heart. then after dinner we went for a ride in the new car and stopped at Bob's saw Brian he is sure growing. He is 4 1/2 months, laughs all the time and is a very good baby. Brenda is growing too. We sure had a nice day, stopped where Dennis was working, got some drinks, not beer..Ha Ha. bud said Walter Gates and wife were both dead.

Dad took asparagus to town then he will stop get groceries and my blue coat. It is a lovely day I should have washed but just did not.

Today is a damp chilly day, so I did not wash.

Went to Otsego, got milk. Daisy sent her red coat home with me to fix, it was a job. We put flowers on Grandpa's grave (Orby's father, John Fouts, buried in Otsego Cemetery) and the peonie is growing but is not in bud. We put a yellow Iris on it today, it was lovely.

Well, I washed two washings today and finished Daisy's coat, it is a lovely day. Mrs. Dennis called they are pretty well. I am going to ask them over for Sunday dinner, nicest day we have had.

I did some wash, ironed my clothes, vacuum cleaned my rooms, then after dinner went to Daisy's. Ike and Dad went fishing, caught 9 fish, had our supper at Daisy's, was a nice day.
