November 1963

(Rosa is 82, Orby is 80, Daisy is 64, Orpha is 53, Merle is 48. Life goes on and off.
John F. Kennedy, one of Rosa's most favorite presidents, gets shot, but I'm not sure she even realizes it...her mind is somewhere else....)

Dad washing and I'm cleaning my house with vacuum, did some ironing.
Saturday, November 2, 1963
Did more washing and ironing. Cleaned blinds and Dad is making hitch for trailer. Got stockings from Wards.
Sunday, November 3, 1963
Went to Daisy's, she said she was going to go see Dr. McDill tomorrow. Rosie and Jerry came, Rosie don't feel too good. The road in front of Daisy's now is nearly done. Orpha and Bud's wedding anniversary, married 36 years.
Monday, November 4, 1963
I called Daisy and she said she did not go to Doctor. She slept good last night. Dad went to Plainwell, got me salt and pepper shaker, a yellow pitcher to water the flowers and an ironing board cover.
Tuesday, November 5, 1963
Little warmer but drizzling rain. I addressed some Christmas Cards today and I talked to Daisy. She said that Mcdill did not think she should have an operation on her navel.
Wednesday, November 6, 1963
Went to Otsego and Dad and Ike went down Franklin to see the Sheppard house as they are taking bids to sell it. It is in bad condition.
Thursday, November 7, 1963
Orpha came over and fixed my hair. She did not feel too good. Had new dress shoes and hand bag, sure was a nice outfit. She looked real nice, little darling.

I did a wash then Dad went to Plainwell and I ironed. Was a nice day.

Another nice day, I called Daisy and Orpha and they had not heard from Merle and i am worried.
Sunday, November 10, 1963
We went to see Hardy's, R1 at Vicksburg today. Hardy looked real good only lost a lot of weight. Mrs. Hardy looked good, they got company while we were there, a cousin of Mildred's, their daughter-in-law. Then we drove over to see how Daisy was, she is not at all well. Nellie was there from Hickory, she was pretty good.

I called Daisy, Ike answered and said she did not rest last night and wasn't at all good. My, sure am worried, she feels so miserable.
Tuesday, November 12, 1963
went to Daisy's, she was some better and they had Dr. again, and he gave her another shot. I called Ike and he said she was resting easier and he gave her something to make her sleep.
Wednesday, November 13, 1963
I called Ike and he said Daisy slept till two then she got up in the chair. I also called Orpha, she said Rosemary was better but Bob's baby (Brian) was not too good. He has a very bad cold and they took him to Dr. Kerk. It is rainy and somewhat cold. I mopped the kitchen and bathroom. Dad bought $2.50 worth of Mrs. Roosevelt stamps. I like them, something new. I called Otsego, Daisy answered. I was so glad to hear her voice. She said Dr. was coming tomorrow.
Thursday, November 14, 1963
Dad went to Kalamazoo to see Doctor about his ear. It is 3 o'clock and he is not home yet. I washed quilt today, heard Kennedy on TV.
Friday, November 15, 1963
Dad did not see Doctor, he was not in. Then he wen tot do some trading. got 2 cans of nuts and 2 cakes, me a hand bag $1.00.
Saturday, November 16, 1963
Started to crochet a yellow doily. Went to Daisy's, Dad and Ike went to Plainwell after nerve medicine and Dorothy was to Daisy's. She was making a pair of pillow cases for Butchy's hope chest. Daisy was not too good, but better.
Sunday, November 17, 1963
It is a nice day, not so cold out. We may go to Earl's this afternoon. Well, we went to Earl's and he was not at home. Then we went to Blanche's and they were having their Thanksgiving and Ardith was there. Glad we went as we saw Ardith Scott and husband also David's grandfather. Then we stopped at Orpha's and Bud was getting over not feeling so good.

Well, it looked as we were going to have a nice day. Just called Daisy, she slept good last night and am i glad. Evangel 18, took to Daisy to have xrays. I called, Ike said Daisy somewhat tired. I hope she sleeps good tonight. Claudia and Dennise were here after dinner, that baby is so sweet, so is her mother. I called Orpha, she said Bud is better.
Tuesday, November 19, 1963
Dad went to Kalamazoo. I stayed home, I washed today. Daisy said Doctor was there today, said she had Pneumonia, inflammation of the lungs.
Wednesday, November 20, 1963
We took Daisy to Plainwell to have xrays, the Doctor wanted her to stay in the hospital but she did not want to. I called her at 8 o'clock, she said she was not so good, but her voice was so strong. She went to bed at 10 and passed away around 1:15 am. and we went over after Orpha came as she went with us. We all feel so bad over the loss of our daughter, wife and mother. She will have funeral at the funeral home on Orlean's Street at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon.
Thursday, November 21, 1963
We went over to Ike's and the girls, Ike and Donald and Dad went to pick out casket and lot. I stayed home as Lila stayed with me as I did not feel like I could stand it to go. We will call Merle tonight, also Blanche as well. Well, we did not have to call Merle, he called and surprised us as he was at airport. Dad went after him, my I love my children so, he looks so good.
Friday, November 22, 1963
Well today Merle and us went to Plainwell to order flowers for Daisy. It is rainy, then we went to Orpha's and Bud gave Merle one of his cars to drive while he is here. We had dinner then Merle went to Kalamazoo to see some of his friends. I did a small wash, it is rainy.
My darling daughter, I miss you so..Love Mother.

Today at 2 pm my dear daughter's funeral was preached at the Baptist Church in Otsego by Minister Ypma. He was a very good minister. Earl and Blanche was at funeral, Bernice, Jake, Nellie, Orpha, Bob, Bud, Karla, Claudia, Rosemary..it was sad.

Merle went to Letha's sister's for to go to Church and then came home.
Monday, November 25, 1963
I did a wash and Dad hung them out doors. It was cold but no snow. Went to cemetery and to Ike's, then came home. Had supper, then went to Orpha's as Merle had Bud's car so we went and took car home.
Tuesday, November 26, 1963
Well, we sat at home today and has a visit. I sure would love to be nearer to my son,so we could see each other more.
Wednesday, November 27, 1963
Took Merle to airport today. He left and I hated to see him go, talked with Orpha, Claudia is better but Bob did not work today and did not feel too good.
Thursday, November 28, 1963
Stayed home all day alone. Dorothy called to see if the slip of names was among the papers Ike gave us. I called Ike this morning to see how they were. They were going to Rosie's for Thanksgiving dinner. Orpha called thism morning and said they would probably have their Thanksgiving Sunday, December 1, so we are invited and will go if it is the Lord's will.
Friday, November 29, 1963
Orby will go to dentist, Dr. Allen tomorrow 9 o'clock. He went then he went to Dr. Brown and got medicine but it seems to do no good.
Saturday, November 30, 1963
Our first snow but melted fast as it came. I mopped my bathroom and kitchen. Got a card from Merle and i was so glad.
