January 1965

Friday, January 1, 1965
Went to Willard's, looked at the house Lucille told me about. Bessie was not too good. Went to Dr. Thursday. Merle and Letha are going to Phoenix to church tonight. Dad and I will stay home. Pat Boone on Godfrey program, Red Foley's son-in-law.
Saturday, January 2, 1965
Went to David's, saw our new Granddaughter, Suki. She seemed very pleasant, does a lot of nice crochet and embroidering. We stayed 2 nights, came home Monday morning. We went one way down and came back through Caso Grande. (David Fouts, one of Merle's sons)
Sunday, January 3, 1965
Well we sit around and talked, we are at David's. Merle, David, Letha and Suki are out playing ball in back of David's yard. We are watching the game.
Monday, January 4, 1965
We started home this morning, got about 3 miles then I noticed I had left my sweater. We went back to David's but Suki had already left to do her wash, so we left and will have it sent to Merle's.
Tuesday, January 5, 1965
Today, Letha's Aunt Ruth and Uncle John Lewis is coming for supper. We are going over to Bessie's this afternoon. I wrote letter to Orpha.
Wednesday, January 6, 1965
Dad went to George Road to get payment. I sit around Merle's, it rained all day.
Thursday, January 7, 1965
Today Dad wants to go to Don Carlos to look at place. We saw it but I hardly think we want it.
Friday, January 8, 1965
Wrote to Betty today. Orby went over real early this morning to Phoenix with Willard as he took Raymond over to have his teeth pulled and they pulled them and put other teeth right back in his mouth. I hope he comes out with them. I stayed to Lucille's then we came home, had dinner then Dad took washing to have done.

Merle's went to church at Phoenix.

Willard and Bessie came over to Merle's after dinner also Joyce was there. We all had a nice visit only I did not feel too good.
Monday, January 11, 1965
We started to Michigan at 7 o'clock, got gas $1.35 my but my back hurts. Bed at St. Rosa first night bed $6.18.
Tuesday, January 12, 1965
We started out on journey at 7 o'clock from St. Rosa, Oklahoma City bed second nite $6.12.
Wednesday, January 13, 1965
Gilman bed $5.15. Started home this morning at 6 am, got here thought we better stay so we did.
Thursday, January 14, 1965
Got home from Arizona, stopped at Orpha's but she was not at home so we went home. It was awful cold so Orpha came and took me home with her, Dad did not stay but I stayed all night with her.
Friday, January 15, 1965
I came home from Orpha's and the man came and turned on the phone. I slept till 8 o'clock.
Saturday, January 16, 1965
Today, Orby went to Plainwell with the wash and to get some thing for the bathroom bowl. Orpha called she don't feel too good.

Sat home all day, thought maybe Orpha would be over but she did not.
Monday, January 18, 1965
Did not do much, seems house don't warm up right.
Tuesday, January 19, 1965
Still don't do much, only little cooking, seem to be sleepy all the time but go to bed early and get up late.

We have little snow but temperature is 30, not too cold.
Thursday, January 21, 1965
Ike called to find out how we was, said he has not been sleeping too good. We called Orpha to see how she was and could not get her so I called the shop, Dennis answered, sounded good to hear his voice. (Dennis Westra, Claudia's husband, worked for Bud at Gimbel's Body Shop) Merle sent letter with Lorac Payment. (So Rosa and Orby sold the house on Lorac in Portage, on land contract.)
Friday, January 22, 1965
Today Johnson is getting sworn in as our 36th President. Well, I saw the whole thing, much better than if I would have been there. After everything was over, they had every state in teh union represent themselves. I think Nebraska had the nicest float but there were a lot of nice ones.

Well, big day is over and I bet they all feel it too. We took Ike over a box of cigars. We bought him for his Christmas. He don't look too good, but the same old Ike.
Sunday, January 24, 1965
Well, I heard that President Johnson was not too well, caught a cold. I got a letter from Roy Newman. I had company Thursday night, Claudia, Dennis and babies. My Anita is growing fast, weights 20 lbs. and Dennise weights 27 lb. We was to Ike's for a while this afternoon. He don't look too good.

I got my first letter from my dear son today, he had not received the letter I wrote him after we got home.

Orpha and Bud came over a while after dinner and Dad gave him the gloves we bought for his birthday.
Wednesday, January 27, 1965
I did some wash today, had a long time getting the water warm enough to wash, the pipes was so cold. Dad went to Vicksburg to see about his teeth, the dentist made.

I wrote Merle a letter and sorted over my cards and letters.
Friday, January 29, 1965
Wrote Roy Newman. We have quite a lot of snow but clearing up some. I washed out a doily for Ike. I know Daisy would want me to, it need some mending so I fixed it too. I talked with Orpha, she is afraid the house across from her will be sold and she wants us to get it. Orpha and Claudia came over for a while.

Orpha and Claudia came over to Town and Country to get groceries.
Sunday, January 31, 1965
Sat around, Dad don't feel too good, ironed my doily and Daisy's chair back I fixed for Ike.
