April 1941

(She is still living in Otsego Michigan. She is 60, Orby is 57, Daisy is 41, Orpha is 30, Merle is 25. Note written inside back cover: "Give your roses while there is life, and fever on graves at the end of strife".)

Tuesday, April 1, 1941
It is a lovely day, I went over to see Daisy, she has a very hard cold. I have a headache.
Wednesday, April 2, 1941
It is a lovely day, I did my wash also was over to Mrs. bakers, her baby Nancy Marie is growing like a weed. Today is my sister's Birthday, she is 62 years old. (Lydia Ellen Hann Newman)
Thursday, April 3, 1941
We went to farm with load of blocks found house empty. Merle was here, they bought new rug. Daisy is sick. Rutes are moving.
Friday, April 4, 1941
We took load to farm. Ike went with us. Mrs. Springer was there to get some fruit jars.
Saturday, April 5, 1941
Went to look for some hard maple trees, then went to farm. Betty and girlfriend was here today. Mr. Knowls moved. He's sick.

Went to Allegan to see about tractor was nice day.
Monday, April 7, 1941
I did my washing. Merle and family was here for dinner, had a good time. I gave Letha a pair of stockings. Some of his chickens are sick.
Tuesday, April 8, 1941
Did ironing went over to Daisy's. She is sick, went to farm. It is nice today. I am looking for some trees to plant on the farm.

Went to Vicksburg to see about getting a man to raise the house.
Thursday, April 10, 1941
Merle was here. His chickens are better, some weigh 3 1/2 lbs. They are nice. Daisy is some better, she went to doctor. I am making a new dress.
Friday, April 11, 1941
Went over to see Daisy, she is some better, so is Bud. They both been real sick. Orby is taking off lumber from foundation at Slim Hinkles.
Saturday, April 12, 1941
Went to Plainwell and dug out the large hard maple, then too it to our farm. Got about 1/2 up and quit, will finish putting it up tomorrow.
Sunday, April 13, 1941
Merle and family and Ike and Donald, went over to farm to help with tree, had our dinners. Had a good time. Set out tree and flowers.
Monday, April 14, 1941
Letha helped me all day today, then we took her home. She has a new rug and coat. Their chickens are just swell. (Giggle)
Tuesday, April 15, 1941
I did my washing and ironing. My washer is again hay wire, the grease got on my clothes. Commenced farm foundation.
Wednesday, April 16, 1941
I washed two pair curtains. I am not so well, I have a cold. Daisy is some better. Buds been sick but went to work. Merle's chickens weighted alive 7 1/4 lbs., dressed chick 6 lbs. 7 oz.

Went over to farm took my yellow bush to set out. The men were putting in the new foundation.
Friday, April 18, 1941
Got up and started to farm at 4 am. It rained had and we did not stay long, got home at 8 am. Turned out a nice day.
Saturday, April 19, 1941
Trying to rain some but turned out nice. Daisy is about the same doctor thinks it is mumps.
Sunday, April 20, 1941
Went over to farm. Donald went with us, we tore out two chimneys and hauled out junk. Orpha's was here for supper. Daisy went to farm but was sick and did not look around.
Monday, April 21, 1941
Mrs. Donaldson was here, had 3 caller to rent houses, nice day. Daisy is better.
Tuesday, April 22, 1941
Went over to farm, they brought out the tractor. Mellie Pennock was here. It is a cold day seems to not warm up right. I am still living in Otsego, but sure would lover to move to farm.

I did my washing today. My washer went hay wire and man fixed it yesterday. It is cold day, had to make fire.
Thursday, April 24, 1941
Got a letter from Mrs. Pearl Rollins, she had been to Peru and Indianapolis. Orby is trying out the new tractor . Nice day, I did not feel good, so stayed home.

Well, we have decided we would take the tractor.

Did my wash. I am very tired. It takes 1 3/4 yards percale and 12 yds. binding for large apron. (Yes, Grandma)

Did ironing, went to farm. Nice day.

Merle was here. I was mowing and he finished. I was very thankful, as I was tired.
