July 1943

(All work and no play, so they went fishing. Sure sounds like they do a lot of work, but they seem to enjoy it, while making extra money)

Thursday, July 1, 1943
Sent order of $8.63 in full to Sears. I enclosed 20 ct. postage and $1.58 draft. Wrote letter to Frances Silver.
Friday, July 2, 1943
6 eggs. Buds was here, we plan on going fishing July 4th, take our dinners.
Saturday, July 3, 1943
2 eggs. Bud and his dad was her, they dug some fishing worms so now Buds dad and Gladys will also be with us. Earl Newman baby boy was born today, named after Earl, they said it weight 8 lbs.
Sunday, July 4, 1943
5 eggs. It rained last night and this morning, but we went to lake, was there a few minutes and it cleared off. Had a good time and dinner and the 7 of us caught 105 fish. I caught a bass nearly 11 inches long.
Monday, July 5, 1943
1 egg. I sure am tired after fishing trip. I layed down after dinner and Daisy and Ike was here a while. Donald has left camp. (Donald, Daisy's son is in the army.)

4 eggs.We put the little sheeps down on the pasture today, they seem to enjoy it.

3 eggs. Merle's was here for dinner, we had fish. We are going to put sows down in pasture this afternoon.

6 eggs. I did my wash. Up to now I sold Daisy 99ct. butter, Merle $1.11, Orpha $1.17, Daisy $1.266, Orpha $1.27, Merle $1.00.

5 eggs. I cleaned some upstairs.

6 eggs. It is quite nice day, we let boy have 2 gal. gas, said his name Delbert Frank.

6 eggs. Killed young chicken 3 1/2 lb. first one killed from April chickens. Sure rained today, I churned.
Monday, July 12, 1943
7 eggs. Still cloudy, went to Otsego and to Merle's. We may go fishing next Sunday. I gave Ike and Daisy a table cloth for their birthday.

5 eggs. I picked berries and cleaned up drawers. Orby husk corn, I churned.

3 eggs. I did the wash, Orby husking corn. Orpha was here, they are going fishing Sunday with Gays. (Mr. and Mrs. Gay were friends and neighbors of Bud and Orpha.)

6 eggs. Well I did my ironing, churned butter.

6 eggs. I gave my front room furniture a thorough cleaning. Dr. took June calves horns off.

5 eggs. Scrubbed my flours, baked cake and pie to take to lake tomorrow. Today is Ike's birthday.

7 eggs. Went fishing, got up at 3 o'clock, caught 20, Merle gave us 10, had a good time.

7 eggs. I sure am tired, won't do much today.

3 eggs. Went to Kalamazoo, bought linoleum for porch, cost $4.80. Was at Orphas for dinner.

4 eggs. Started to combine the wheat, commenced at 6 pm.

7 eggs. We are still at the wheat combine. It looks rainy, commenced at 4pm. Today is Sonny's birthday (Merle) I sure love my dear son, God bless him.

7 eggs. Still combining wheat, and it looks like rain. Commenced wheat at 11 o'clock, quit at 8pm.

6 eggs. Rained last night, sur hot today. Started to combine wheat at 4:30 pm. William Houser is doing the job, he works for George Rockinline.

4 eggs. Went to Orpha, took pickles, Bobby sold them. I gave Bobby 80 ct. Brought home $1.10, Sold 72#5oz. got $1.63 per bushel.

9 eggs. Took wheat $1.63, sold beans $7.67.
