Wednesday, January 1, 1941
Was a nice day. Wed drove to Dowagiac. Went to cemetary where Brother is buried, then to Silva's, got there 11:45. Elmer and Wife come, had a nice visit, bought Silva home with us.
Thursday, January 2, 1941
Orby went to Kalamazoo. It is nice out. Silva and I went over to Daisy's. Silva stayed to dinner. Dorothy(Daisy's daughter)is going to ohio for a week. She did not go.
Friday, January 3, 1941
It snowed 4 in last nite and is quit cold. Orby is sick. Dr. said stay in a few days. I did my wash and Silva is playing checkers.
Saturday, January 4, 1941
Snow still on ground and it is cold. Silva and I have played many games of chinese checker today.
Sunday, January 5, 1941
Merle come over to have us for dinner but Orby was not yet able to be out.
Monday, January 6, 1941
Silva went home on 12 oclock buss from Kalamazoo. Fair 90 cent. Orby went to work but was hardly able.
Tuesday, January 7, 1941
Just come home from seeing the new baby Joan Ruth Spencer born Jan 3. Merle and family came to spend evening. Bought eggs. (Rosa sold eggs) Spent a joyful evening.
Wednesday, January 8, 1941
I did my wash, wrote 4 letters, one to Dr. Loupee. Orby is lot better today.
Thursday, January 9, 1941
I learned today that Rosa DeKilder (Daisy's daughter) has planed to marry in Sept. Dorothy (Daisy's older daughter) stoped in a few minutes. Rosa broke her engagement.
Friday, January 10, 1941
Went to Merle, he had just come from taking Letha's (his wife) Dad to Kal. They had chicken all cleaned expecting Letha's sister Ruth for Sun. dinner.
Saturday, January 11, 1941
Was home all day it is very slippery out today. Freda was her to pay rent, she has been in Allegan hospital sick. (Rosa and Orby, bought,rented, and sold homes)
Sunday, January 12, 1941
Stayed home all day. Took a nap then stayed up till 11 oclock to listen to Goodwill hour.
Monday, January 13, 1941
Was over to see Daisy and Orby and Donald went to Allegan to get a coat for Dad. Bud (Orpha's husband) come to get Dorothy to to stay with them as Orpha sick.
Tuesday, January 14, 1941
Well Merle was here to day. I had a little talk with him. He did not like what I said., but my heart nearly breaks too when I think about different things. God please help me.
Wednesday, January 15, 1941
Merle was hear to see Dad about helping put in his electric pump. He went away, did not say goodbye to me. Little Book, I love my children too well. Received $4.26 Montgomery Ward check from corset.
Thursday, January 16, 1941
Stayed home, it is warming up some. Made order out to Sears for corset and dress. Snow is leaving fast, expect rain.
Friday, January 17, 1941
Rain fell all nite last nite. Merle was here, invited us over to dinner tomorrow and Orby is helping with pump.
Saturday, January 18, 1941
Was over to Merle's all day and put in his electric pump and it now works fine. Had good visit.
Sunday, January 19, 1941
Went to Orpha's for dinner. Orpha is lot better. Bud was not so well. Had a very nice time with them. Betty (Daisy's daughter) went to camp.
Monday, January 19, 1941
Orby went to work. Today is President Rossevelt third inauguration. He is the best President the world has ever had, his speech was marvolous.
Tuesday, January 20, 1941
I did my wash. Orby went to Merles to get eggs, he has sold allhis hens. It is warm and raining some snow and ice on the ground.
Wednesday, January 21, 1941
Still drizzling rain. Merle was over, thinks of keeping his blue suit. Got a letter from Betty (Daisy's daughter), she is at Dowling Camp for 2 weeks.
Thursday, January 22, 1941
Give house a thorough cleaning to day. Received letter from Silva that she was going to sell her place and go to Lucy's.
Friday, January 23, 1941
Went over to Daisy's and in evening, Palma brought Minnie to our house and went home, and Minnie stayed.
Saturday, January 24, 1941
Minnie is here, we are having a very nice visit but I didn't have such a headache I would be happier.
Sunday, January 26, 1941
Well, I stil have my headache. We took Minnie over to see Merle's and Orpha was there. Topsy got killed last nite. (Topsy - dog?) Merle lives near Pine Lake.
Monday, January 27, 1941
Was over to see Daisy as Minnie wanted to see all the children. Minnie went to Palma's today as Orby went to work.
Tuesday, January 28, 1941
Headache terrible. Dorothy was here, cleaned the house for me. It is her Birthday, she is 19 years old.
Wednesday, January 29, 1941
I washed today, but I sitll have awful headache.
Thursday, January 30, 1941
Did my ironing. It is a nice day, Merle was here. Had a nice talk.
Friday, January 31, 1941
Went to Aunt Minerva's all day and Uncle Andy was there. Had a good time. Then went to Silva, she is going to sell place. Merle bought 50 chickens 1 day old.
