May 1941

(She still resides on Wilmot Street, Daisy lives on Franklin Street, both Otsego Michigan. Orpha lives on Ere Street, South Haven, and Merle lives in Doster Michigan.
I believe the "farm" is in Vicksburg Michigan, one of two they eventually bought.)

Went to Palma's, her baby is nice. Roy and wife was here.

Went to farm to water the trees and flowers.
Saturday, May 3, 1941
Went to Merle's to get carpet he had burned it. His little baby chicks look nice. 100 of them.
Sunday, May 4, 1941
Went to farm, Daisy came out in afternoon a while. She don't look very good. We fixed crib to live in.
Monday, May 5, l941
Did my wash, nice day, I am tired.
Tuesday, May 6, 1941
did ironing today and wrote Lydia a letter. It rained off and on all day. Paid for gravel $12.00.

I am not so well. I am so tired. Looks rainy, did rain some took first load of furniture to farm, but won't stay at farm much as it seems awful cold but we will stay part time.

Took load of furniture to farm and may stay. We did not stay, too rainy and cold. Did not spend too very pleasant evening, Orby raised the devil.
Friday, May 9, 1941
Things looked some brighter. Merle's was over, brought me two chickens, weigh 8 lbs. 6 oz., cost #1.84. It is nice but cold.
Saturday, May 10, 1941
Orby went to unload trailer of manure at farm. It is cold and damp today. Orpha, Bud, and Bobby came over, brought me a pig, 6 weeks old for Mother's Day.
Sunday, May 11, 1941
We all went to farm, got our dinner. bud and Dad plowed with tractor, had a lovely time. Merle came after dinner. Baby ckicks are fine.
Monday, May 12, 1941
It is some warmer. Donald is mowing the lawn. Orby plowed at the farm today, he says pig is fine. Rosie is planning a wedding in June. (Donald and Rosie are two of Daisy's children)
Tuesday, May 13, 1941
Nice day but cold. Ordered 500 lbs. of coal. Orby went over again to plow. The pig nearly got out. I hope it will be okay.

I did my wash. Merle was here, Dear little book, how I did want my Sonny to take me in his arms and tell me how much he loved me but he did not. I love my children so much. My heart aches for a little loving from my babies.

Went to farm, it rained and hailed as we started home. The pig is getting along fine.

Went to farm, then went to Willard's to see about getting pig. They have their house all shingled and Bessie was cleaning house. (Willard is Orby's brother)
Saturday, May 17, 1941
Went to farm early, bought fence and paper for roof. Betty went with as and a stray dog stayed with us all day. Came home at night, was too cold.
Sunday, May 18, 1941
Went to farm. Daisy and Ike come over. Ike fixed chicken's fence. Willard's come over in evening. It was a lovely day, Orby floated the corn ground.
Monday, May 19, 1941
Took chickens to farm from Merle. Cost $19.90 for 22 pullets at 22 ct. pound. Got 1/2corn ground planted, came home at night.
Tuesday, May 20, 1941
Dorothy helped me today. I did a wash, Orby went to be at farm, when man finished planting corn.
Wednesday, May 21, 1941
We went to farm, Dorothy came over with us, it is nice day,only awful hot.
Thursday, May 22, 1941
Today it isn't so hot, we are just loafing a round, waiting to get help so we can fix our house.

Started tearing out the wall and plastering. I am very tired and dirty. Dorthy went home tonight.

Well here we are again, tired and dirty. We took out cupboard and walls. Dorthy went home. I am taking nails out of lath. Awful cold this morning.

Come home last nite and stayed home all nite. Then came to farm, Ike helped fix pig pen,. Merle bought over 2 roosters.

I did my wash and ironing today in Otsego, Dad is coming after me Tuesday nite. (She called Orby "Dad")

Went over to Daisy's then she came home with me. Donald is mowing lawn and broke mower.

come to farm last nite and I cleaned yard and mowed some. Just learned that Mr. Carpenter is dead over a year that build house at Parchment, we liked him alot.
Thursday, May 29, 1941
Orby cultivated 4 rows corn. Eletric man was here. Orby piled up blocks, but in electric.
Friday, May 30, 1941
Was in Otsego last mite and Merle and Orby brought the refrigerator to farm. Orby works 4 to 12 pm.
Saturday, May 31, 1941
Betty come to stay till Sunday nite.
