(Rosa wrote on extra pages in diary:
Corn on cob in half gal can. I cooked 70 minutes at 10 lb. pressure, 1 tablespoon salt.
Cook cut corn from cob, 60 minutes at 10 lb. pressure, 1 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon sugar. Cover corn with water in cans, don't fill can too full.

4 eggs. I cleaned up the room, made cake and pie as Buds will be here tomorrow, they come to help today but did had to drag ground for oats so they will be here tomorrow. Bobby has bought a paper route. (Bob Gimbel is 13)

7 eggs. Orpha was here for dinner, brought two nice chickens over, they dressed 7 lb. sure was good. Man brought over drill to drill oats but it rained, he was here for dinner. Daisy's came in afternoon, they had a new car Ford. Daisy looks bad, Rosa was with them.

8 eggs. Went to Otsego to collect rent. Mrs. Boodt has her kitchen papered at Parchment, was very windy today. We engaged 20 hens to Hotel @40 ct., feather dressed.

Today, nice day. Man drilling oats commenced 1:15 pm quit 6:30, drilled 20 acres cost $12.00 to have them put in, seed cost 75 ct. a bushel, 30 bushel. Then we had to get 4 1/2 at 70 ct. bushel more as we did not have enough, seed cost $28.65.

8 eggs. The boy gave me 11 duck eggs today and I am trying to keep them warm with electric light bulb.

10 eggs. We killed an dressed 20 hens, will sell at 40ct. per lb.
Friday, May 7, 1943
5 eggs. Sold 20 hens dressed 113lbs @40ct. lb, alive 122 lb. 20 heads weight 2 3/4 lbs. (?) We took dinner with Orpha then I stayed for supper as Bud was going to Dr. and I rode home with them.
Saturday, May 8, 1943
3 eggs. We changed and put the last chicken on the floor of hen coop, they enjoy it, I'm sure. We also put clean shavings under larger chicks.

3 eggs. Orphas was here to dinner and supper. Bud and Bobby helped draw out manure, had very nice time, little cold. Lost a large speckled rooster.

2 eggs. Went to Moore Park and bought 500 strawberry plants, 300 Gem Ever-bearing dunlaps, 100 Pink Bird, paid $4.20 for them. It is raining and very cold.

3 eggs. Today our 9 little pigs are 10 weeks old, still rainy and cold.

1 egg. Very nice day, I did my wash. Set out four rows of Gen Everybearing strawberry, 1 row Pink Bird, 1 row Dunlap. Turning cooler. (She has written and circled) Sign breast cancer. (?)

Bred Sow for old man $1.50. I gave Orby $22.24, Paid in full.

It is raining some, Orby finished plowing corn ground at 10am. today. Got 55 gallons gas for tractor $8.85.

Stayed home. Bud and Bobby came at 10, helped till noon then went home, they brought me pie plate. I made 2 pies.

3 eggs. It rained today.

5 eggs. It was a cloudy, gloomy day. We went to Willard in afternoon. Bessie gave me some Rose bushes, 1 red, pink and white.

3 eggs. Orby went to Kalamazoo today. It is rainy and bad, went back to Kalamazoo and bought bowl and cover. Bull with heifer "Sadie", in 9 months, Sadie will get calf.
Thursday, May 20, 1943
5 eggs. It rained all day, sure is awful wet and muddy. We sorted some chickens out today, will sell them soon. Hens 126 @35ct. Sold hens $43.10. 30 chickens 116 lb. 38ct. $44.08. May will get calf this year 1944.

2 eggs. Orpha and Bud was here in evening, invited us over to dinner.

2 eggs. We cleaned out the young chickens place and put in Merle's brooder. Dad is dragging ground again.

3 eggs. Merle's was here for supper, had a nice visit, but it was rainy bad cold day.

1 egg. Went to Otsego exchanged stool cover in at west side house at Orleans Street. Took old cover to put on the stool at Morrell Street, rainy and bad.

Did my wash, was nice till I got clothes dry then sprinkled some, then turned nice. Orby just finished potatoes.

5 eggs. Lost 2 large chickens from others picking them.
Thursday, May 27, 1943
4 eggs. Sent $3.00 to WLW Peabody for 12 pair silk service hose, 9 1/2 beige or suntan. Orby took pig to Sale also few chickens. Sold 9 pigs @7.00 a piece, chickens 50 ct. a piece.
Friday, May 28, 1943
Sold 8 chickens @40 ct. lb. Our school is out today, they had a dinner. Sold 36 chickens $44.08.
Saturday, May 29, 1943
Dad plowed the 2 patches for potatoes. Daisy and Ike was here a while, he got 1 bushel potatoes $2.75.

Stayed home, looked for Bud but his dad was there from Chicago. (Bud's dad Otto Gimbel)

1 egg. Stayed to Merle's tonight to get my hair curled.
