March 1941

(She is 60 years old.
Her husband Orby worked at the Kalamazoo Vegetable Parchment Company from 1926-1956.
I believe the plant was in Otsego
They still lived at 325 Wilmot Street Otsego Michigan)

Saturday, March 1, 1941
Orby and Ike (Daisy's husband) went fishing. Daisy stayed with me. They both caught a nice mess, they stayed for supper.
Sunday, March 2, 1941
Went to Orpha's today, had a lovely time. Took a ride over South Haven after dinner. Bud got his cocker spaniel. (Bud is Orpha's husband..they are my parents).
Monday, March 3, 1941
It is raining today, quite warm. Merle was here, Letha got her tooth filled. Merle's chickens are fine.
Tuesday, March 4, 1941
Ike was over. I got two new all wool blankets, cot $6.00. Mrs. Cowls was here, they have some little pups.
Wednesday, March 5, 1941
I cleaned 3 rooms today. I sur am tired. Dorthy was coming to help me, that is what Mrs. Kowls said.

I did a big wash and it is very nice today. Orby went to thaw out the pump. He is going ice fishing.

I did my ironing. Went to spend evening at Daisy's, she has her new teeth, she looks nice.
Saturday, March 8, 1941
We went to Kalamazoo and went to look at farm. Orpha, Bud and Bobby came and stayed all nite. (Bob is Orpha and Bud's son, my brother, he would be 11 years old)
Sunday, March 9, 1941
The boys went fishing at Stuart Lake. They got quite a few. Merle's came over this afternoon. All had nice visit.

We looked at the 100 acre farm. No house.

I did my wash. Merle was here, he said George Sackson was taken away on bad charges.
(Don't know George)

Went to Schoolcraft to see a farm. It is a lovely day out, very little snow on the ground. Eugene Baker brother had leg broke 3 week, may take it off. (Don't know Eugene)

Orby bought ton coal $9.50. We went over to Almo to see 100 acres.
Friday, March 14, 1941
Went to Agusta and we saw Waite and we looked at some old buildings. Spent evening at Daisy's. Merle was not home.

It is snowing real hard. Mr. Cadwater rom Hickory was here. Wanted to sell farm.

It is snowing and blowing out. We went over to Kendall to look at a farm, did not go in.
Monday, March 17, 1941
Last nite it sure was cold. I believe coldest this winter. Still flaking and blowing.
Tuesday, March 18, 1941
Stopped snowing last nite but looks hazy. Started snowing but turned out to be nice. Snow about an inch deep now. Ike was here to nite.

Went to see the sweet farm and Mr. Calwlder was here. It was a nice day only cold. Wm. Marshall was buried yesterday. Merle was here today.

I did my washing. It was a nice day. Mr. Baker said his brother was not so good and they might have to amputate his leg.
Friday, March 21, 1941
Sure is lovely. Merle was here to get pipe wrench, his pipes were stopped. Orby went to Kalamazoo and Mr. Cadwater was here.

We went to see the school houses that are for sale. There are 4 in all.

We went to Lucilles (she is a relative, not sure which) had a swell time, had dinner then after dinner Raymond's sister, husband and uncle came. We went to lake. Mr. Beursma sure is lively. Lucille lives in Holland Mich.

I did my washing. Orby works for 3 days now this week.
Tuesday, March 25, 1941
Did ironing, it is nice today. We drove over to Mr. Waites then to his farm.
Wednesday, March 26, 1941
It is trying to snow. It turned out nice. Mr. Waite was here, just left. I went to see Daisy, she has a cold.
Thursday, March 27, 1941
Orby and Mr. Waite went to Allegan to make out paper for the farm. It was a nice day. Got letter from Lydia. (Lydia is her sister)
Friday, March 28, 1941
Did my cleaning. Rex Woodorf was here. Orby went to Kalamazoo to see Mr. Williams. Clifford Simington moved to Parchment.
Saturday, March 29, 1941
Orby went to Kalamazoo. I stayed home, I don't feel so good. I moped kitchen and bathroom. It is a lovely day. The pig Bud (Orpha's husband, my dad) gave me was born.
Sunday, March 30, 1941
Went for a drive. Saw the dog that was for sale, drove past the farm, then went to Merle's, his chickens are fine. Weigh 2 1/2 pounds.
Monday, March 31, 1941
Today, we traded our property at Parchment to Mr. Waite for his 90 acres for paid difference. It is trying to rain.
