August 1941

(Rosa and Orby are living in Vicksburg Michigan on V Avenue and Portage Road.
Her Mother and Father both died when she was only 16 years old.)

Friday, August 1, 1941
8 eggs. A very hot dry day, the corn needs rain bad. My chicks don't look so good.
Saturday, August 2, 1941
7 eggs. The carpenter just finished siding the house. Bobby is here and we expect Orpha tonite.
Sunday, August 3, 1941
9 eggs. Stayed home all through day. Nite went to Daisy's. Merle's come, we had ice cream and cake for supper. Betty went to Jake's for a week.
Monday, August 4, 1941
Put on porch roofs. I don't feel so good. Orby is just finishing house first coat of paint. It rained a nice shower after long dry spell.
Tuesday, August 5, 1941
Bobby and I played sling shot at mark. Got 9 eggs. Charles came last nite.
Wednesday, August 6, 1941
7 eggs. Bobby went home. Orpha came after him. Bud was not very well, Orpha is better.
Thursday, August 7, 1941
9 eggs. Nearly through lathing, my I am so tired, I hardily know what to do.
Friday, August 8, 1941
11 eggs. Got 1 small egg, about 3/4 inch. It had a perfect yolk. Started plastering, got 1 room 1 coat. Today is Orpha's birthday. She is 31 today. Sure a very pretty darling.

Charles and I cleaned out chicken coop, we washed it out. 3 times. Chickens some better.

10 eggs. Willard's was over a while this evening. They got there boy, had him 1 week.

Rained today, it was awful dry. To day is Orby's birthday, he is 58 years old today. A very good Daddy.

9 eggs. Our neighbors come got some apples. It rained some today. Merle was here and the children come with him, they are sweet kids.

14 eggs. Charles went home tonight and I went to Otsego. Rained last nite.

11 eggs. Got permanent. Catherine's Mother was here looking for her. I stayed to Daisy's Friday nite, had hair curl.

12 eggs. Went to Mrs. Williams, they are coming Tuesday to see us.

13 eggs. Finished all lathing, now ready for plastering.

12 eggs. Just finished upstairs, I can't plaster.

13 eggs. Charles husked corn today and the men was here to plaster from 8:45 am to 2:30 pm.

11 eggs. Went to Merle's, brought Joyce home to stay a while. Daisy has new radio.

10 eggs. Joyce wants to help do everything. She is having a swell time.

11 eggs. Was over to Daisy's to show the place to Hadden. Jake's kids was to Ike's. Today was Daisy's birthday, she is 42. She sure is a very pretty darling.

15 eggs. Joyce brought in eggs 3 times today, she enjoys it.

9 egg. Joyce is having the time of her life. she wants to feed the chickens all the time.

Got bath tub today. We are grading our lawn.

10 eggs. Took Joyce home. Merle's chickens look fine.

7 eggs. Orbys day off and Chuck and Orby went to town to get tractor pumped up. We are grading yard.

11 eggs. Had Fouts Reunion, had a nice time. 17 present, took Charles home, he goes to school.
