June 1941

(Rosa and Orby are moving to the "farm". I believe this is the first farm they owned in Vicksburg Michigan, located on the corner of V Avenue and Portage Road. The large two story white farm house is still there and a big porch was added a couple of years ago.)
Memoranda in diary: Med for stomach trouble - 8 drops carbolic acid in glass of water. Take 1 Teaspoon every 2 hours, while taking above remedy, take 1 tablespoon olive oil before meals and at bed time. Above recipe given me by Minnie.
(I'm not recommending this!)

Orby is cultivating corn, had chicken for dinner. Will take Betty home home. Today is sister Silva Hann's birthday, she is 61 years old. (I believe Silva was deaf but talked with her hands, signing.)
Monday, June 2, 1941
Did wash at Otsego, hung them out at farm. Had chimney finished today.
Tuesday, June 3, 1941
Was cold all day and rainy. I went to bed to keep warm. Put up new mail box at farm.
Wednesday, June 4, 1941
Went to Orpha's. They were surprised and Bud took us over to Jacovy and I got some dahlia bulbs.

Tis morning and we are having a swell time talking our heads off.
Friday, June 6, 1941
Stayed home, Orpha and I after dinner we took a nap then in evening Bud took us for a ride.

Will go home to night. Bud is going to take me home, but got 2 fishing poles.

Donald is here to help us. Merle came up in evening a while. Dad worked tonite.

Mr. Merchant come to work, it is rainy bad day today, and cold, got new wire bone corset.

Wet, bad day. I am tried helped work all day. Donald went home tonite.

Helped work, Orby was home and Ike and Daisy was over. The men put in electric pump.

Charles Slack come to work for us, he is 14 years old, Merle brought over 6 ducks for me.

Got my first eggs from the pullets, I got off Merle. They were just 4 months and 17 days old.
Wednesday, June 18, 1941
Charles went to show, I am putting on laths, got new linoleum from Chicago mail order. Got 1 egg.
Thursday, June 19, 1941
Got 2 eggs from pullets, fell and hurt my leg, it is awful sore. I fell from third step to top in barn. I sure hurt my leg bad, I can hardily walk. Today is brother's birthday (William Sylvester Hann?)he is 58 today. He is gone but not forgotten by his sister Rosa, who loved him so very much.

Daisy and Ike came over. The men straightened side of house. Got 3 eggs.

Putting in stair steps. Dorthy come last nite. 3 eggs.

Got 5 eggs. Merchant went home at 4:30 pm to go fishing.
Wednesday, June 25, 1941
Got 6 eggs. Church folks was here tonite. Leg is sore. Mrs. Slack was here.

Friday, June 27, 1941
5 eggs. Sure warm, leg hurts bad. Change and now living in barn.
Saturday, June 28, 1941
4 eggs. Dorthy Bean was here last night, slept on cot.

8 eggs. Sat home all day, leg some better.
